Using Jeff Christopherson of the North American Mission Board as their mouthpiece, CT editors are picking up on the argument made by SBC President J. D. Greear and company: namely, that Evangelicals voting for Trump hurt the mission field. Nonsense. They never stop to think that the so-called “Equality Act,” first order of business for any elected Democratic President, will bring a police state of homosexual-and-transgender coerced brainwashing and mandatory speech that will make it harder to convert people to genuine Christianity.
Why harder? Because the recipients of this brainwashing will be predisposed to view any movement that upholds the biblical male-female priority for marriage and anti-transgender integrity of the sexes as the equivalent of Ku Klux Klan racism. The only kind of Christianity that these potential converts will be primed for is a heretical, left-wing “liberal” version.
The Evangelical hypocrite, if there is one on the matter of voting in the presidential election in 2020, is more likely to be the person who expresses concern for life in the womb, the divinely ordained male-female foundation of human sexuality, and the rights to free exercise of religion and free speech for all, but then refuses to do the simple act of casting an effective vote against the Party whose entire raison d’etre is to kill babies, promote transgenderism and homosexuality, and to persecute any whom they are unable to corrupt (including young children) into celebrating these blasphemies.
It is not a power grab to seek to prevent massive oppression and harm to people of faith in particular and to the whole of society in general, contrary to what this article claims. It is rather an act of grave concern. The person who doesn’t know the difference is in need of remedial education, both theologically and politically.
It is common sense and an act of love, not “partisanship” or power lust, for Evangelicals to take effective action against the one Party that has as its national objective to expand the right to kill fully viable prenatal babies (and a little early infanticide), to corrupt little children with Drag Queens and homosexual propaganda, and to shatter free speech and religious liberty protections for people of the Book (Evangelicals, conservative Catholics, Orthodox Church believers, Muslims) and indeed for anyone who operates out of reason rather than out of state brainwashing.
These hostilities toward life, liberty, and faith are not just personal moral failings or errant remarks on the part of one or more individual Democratic candidates. These are the stated policy goals of the Democrat Party. In effect, the ultimate goal of the Democrat Party is to marginalize, persecute, and (if possible) do away with any expression of faith that does not pass “LGBTQ” and abortion muster. To do the simple act of casting an effective vote against such an Evil Party (and I’m not arguing that Republicans are God’s Party) is an act of sanity, intelligence, and compassion, not partisanship.
CT might as well criticize as “partisans” American Christians who aligned themselves with the anti-slavery Republican Party of the 1860s and 1870s against the slavery-expanding Democratic Party; or German Christians who aligned themselves with the Weimar Republic against the anti-Semitic totalitarian Nazis in 1928 and 1932. Logical consistency would demand that CT editors do so. Of course, CT editors would never do so, because that would be a perspective that would not only be ridiculous but also lead to the Left accusing them of racism.
In addition, one could easily turn the charge of partisanship around and point it at CT editors because, regardless of intent, the effect of their ideology is to make Evangelicals stooges for the Democratic Party by depressing the Evangelical opposition vote. Without active Evangelical support Republicans lose and Democrats win every time. Soon there would be no Party opposed to abortion and protective of our liberty.
“Christianity Today” isn’t really “Christianity Today”; it’s “Christianity Today for Evangelical NeverTrumpers and Democrats Who Think of Themselves as Elite. CT has published one NeverTrump article after another, with no contrary Evangelical reflection. The editors at CT live in their own little echo chamber where they think that their political point of view is the only one that should exist. The publication has devolved into one that censors Evangelical political views that dissent from their own “enlightened” perspective. They are averse to having their own ideas scrutinized if that scrutiny is not coming from the Left. I think that is a shame, and shameful.
