The idea of open borders is unbiblical. I say that on the basis of Acts 17:26, which teaches that God "made from one man [Adam] every nation [ethnicity] of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the BOUNDARIES OF THEIR HABITATION."
The Greek noun 'boundaries' is the word 'horothesia' (ὁροθεσία), which translated means a setting of boundaries or a laying down of definite limits. The very next verse, Acts 17:27, explains God's purpose in setting those boundaries - "that they [every nation - ethnic group - of mankind] would seek God, if perhaps they [every nation - ethnic group - of mankind] might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us."
Those two verses clearly teach that God alone is sovereign in establishing nations with regard to both their ethnic composition as well as their specific geographic location (see Deuteronomy 32:8). To argue for open borders - as many do under the premise that America is obligated to demonstrate to the world a level of national benevolence to everyone who wishes to come here - whether legally or illegally - is antithetical to the creation ordinance of God in establishing geographical boundaries to begin with.
Now, lest I be misquoted or misunderstood, these comments I am making have to do specifically with the matter of open borders NOT legal immigration. Contrary to what oneness multiculturalists would have us believe, we are not "citizens of the world" nor are we "globalists". The goal is not to return us to the days of the Tower of Babel where everyone "used the same language and the same words" (Genesis 11:1), which was the very reason that "the Lord scattered them abroad over the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:9b).
The reason there are nationalities in the first place is that there exists geographic boundaries that define nations. God established the principle of national geographic boundaries for a reason, not the least of which is that the people who comprise those nations - you and I - are sinners and need to guard ourselves against one another. Just look at what is happening today in countries like the United Kingdom, France, and Germany. The national identity of those nations is disappearing practically overnight, having been besieged by Islamist 'refugees' under the guise of a globalist/multiculturalist/pluralist worldview that is espoused by their respective leaders.
To argue for open borders and sanctuary cities is neither benevolent nor caring. It is unwise and self-destructive. It does not promote peace but chaos. And God is not a God of chaos (1 Corinthians 14:33).
