Confession of Sin

"...if we judged ourselves truly, we would not be judged.  But when we are judged by the Lord, we are disciplined so that we may not be condemned along with the world." - 1 Corinthians 11:31-32

I must confess I never would have been saved if I could have helped it. - Charles Spurgeon

"The way to cover our sin is to uncover it by confession. The way for God to spare us is not to spare ourselves." - Richard Sibbes

"Upon a review of the past year, I desire to confess that my unfaithfulness has been exceedingly great, my sins still greater, God's mercies greater than both. My short-comings and misdoings, my unbelief and want of love would sink me into the lowest hell, was not Jesus my righteousness and my redeemer." -- Augustus Toplady

"Even if we were carefully to examine just one minute of our lives, we would find ourselves worthy of eternal death. Indeed, each one of us would discover ourselves to be sinners, not in just one area but a hundred thousand; not due to some one fault but to countless millions. Now if even we ourselves acknowledge that we are full of so many blemishes, surely God is aware of many more than we could ever perceive, because he sees more deeply than we can, as John writes in his epistle (l John 3:20). Thus, the case is settled. The verdict is that no one can be justified by the law; justification is through faith alone." - John Calvin

"I am not only a sinner, to condemn myself generally with others, but I have committed such faults before God, and yet was I subject to far greater, unless God had preserved me. And let us not say “And what of this man? Is not he more worthy to be condemned than I?” As for our neighbors, let us shut up our own eyes. Let us not go seek their life, to let our own go, but let every man confess his own sins, and not confess the faults of his neighbors." - John Calvin

This is our confession, that we have no righteousness of our own, that by the grace of God we believe the gospel, so we glory in Christ Jesus alone and have no hope or confidence in the flesh (Phil 3:3), We affirm that we justly deserve the wrath of God (John 3:36; Rom 6:23) save for Christ's mercy alone (Rom 9:15-16) That the cross of Jesus Christ is sufficient to save us to the uttermost. (Heb 7:25; 10:10) for where there is remission of our lawless deeds, there is no longer need for any additional offerings for sin (Heb 10:18)
