AN INTRODUCTION to the OLD TESTAMENT

The prophet Nahum, whose name means “compassion,” delivered a stern message of judgment against Assyria in the seventh century B.C. The tone of the book is harsh, and the message, directed toward a particular nation at a specific time, appears to be irrelevant to many. This assessment, though faulty, has kept many Christians from studying the book. No one denies the book’s aesthetic value, and if understood within its historical and theological context, the book has tremendous significance for us today.
