Anthropology: The Study of Man

The Study of Man: Anthropology is derived from the two Greek words ... meaning "man" and ..."word." Biblical anthropology deals with the study of the Bible's revelation of the nature of man both before and after the fall and both before and after regeneration. A fundamental idea in Biblical anthropology is the image of God. The four states of human nature are: (a) Pre-Fall; (b) Post-Fall (Depravity); (c) Begun Recovery (Regeneration); and (d) Glorification or Misery.These four states, which are derived from the Scripture, correspond to the four states of man in relation to sin enumerated by Augustine of Hippo: (a) able to sin, able not to sin (posse peccare, posse non peccare); (b) not able not to sin (non posse non peccare); (c) able not to sin (posse non peccare); and (d) unable to sin (non posse peccare).
